When & where was the first Asian Games held?

The first Asian Games was held from March 4 to 11, 1951 at New Delhi's Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. India was unanimously chosen to host the historic event. The 1951 Asiad saw the participation of 489 athletes from 11 countries in 57 events. Japan finished top with 60 medals, while India secured second place with 51 medals.
