Astronomers find icy object beyond Neptune that may be hiding atmosphere

Astronomers have found a possible mystery beyond Neptune involving a distant icy object called 2002 XV93. The object, about 470 kilometres wide, appears to have a thin layer of gas, which is unusual as it is too small to hold an atmosphere. The discovery came during a stellar occultation, leaving scientists puzzled about how any gas could still exist there.
