Sensex falls 900 points, Nifty slips below 23,000

Benchmark index Sensex tanked around 900 points to 73,034.11 in early trade on Monday, while Nifty also fell over 1% to slip below 23,000. A surge in crude oil prices after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz weighed on investor sentiment. Selling by foreign institutional investors also contributed to the decline.
