Mathematician claims Claude Fable helped him disprove 87-year-old Jacobian conjecture
short by Medhaa Gupta / on Monday, 20 July, 2026
Levent Alpöge, a mathematician at Anthropic, claimed he disproved the Jacobian conjecture, a question about polynomial equations generalised in 1939, with Claude Fable's help. He also gave a counterexample in three dimensions that meets every requirement the conjecture demanded but fails to be invertible. This gives a constant non-zero Jacobian determinant of negative two, as per Alpöge.
