A new study finds Neanderthal noses were not adapted for extreme cold. The researchers discovered Neanderthal noses lacked specialised adaptations for severe cold. Their large nasal cavities were proportional to their robust faces, unlike Arctic populations with true cold-climate features. The findings suggest facial size, not freezing temperatures, shaped Neanderthal nasal evolution.
