Why do people say 'Merry' Christmas and not 'Happy'?
short by Anmol Sharma / on Thursday, 25 December, 2025

The earliest written record of "Merry Christmas" dates to 1534 letter by an English bishop. The phrase became widely popular through Victorian-era literature and carols, especially Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
