A US judge cancelled a civil trial after finding that lawyers on both sides submitted AI-generated court filings containing fake legal citations. The judge fined all four attorneys between $1,000 and $3,500 and barred two from practising in that district for two years. A lawyer who first spotted the AI-generated errors called the episode a "comedy of errors".
