Demis Hassabis was working on a plan to create an independent industry body focused on AI safety weeks before stepping down as Google DeepMind CEO, WSJ reported. He discussed the proposed new entity with other AI labs' heads and US President Donald Trump-led administration's officials including Scott Bessent. The proposed organisation would focus on setting best practices for AGI development.
