Cigarette maker BAT's AI-led cost-cuts to hit 9,000 jobs as people reduce smoking

British American Tobacco has announced that its AI-led cost-cutting plan is set to hit 9,000 jobs as the cigarette maker faces a terminal decline in sales of its primary profit driver, tobacco. BAT said it'll fire 5,500 employees and move 3,500 jobs to third-party firms. The company now plans to invest in smoke-free products like vaping devices and nicotine pouches.
