Central Railway introduces 14 new AC local trains in Mumbai

The Central Railway (CR) in Mumbai has introduced 14 new AC local train services on its main line, increasing the total number of AC services to 80 from 66. The new services, which replaced existing non-AC services, will operate from Monday to Saturday. According to an official seven out of the 14 newly introduced AC services were operated by the afternoon.

Supreme Court to hear pleas against Waqf Act today

The Supreme Court will hear multiple petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 on Wednesday. The Act was passed by the Parliament on April 4 and received President Droupadi Murmu's assent on April 5, while Centre notified its operation from April 8. At least six BJP-ruled states have filed intervention pleas in SC, supporting the Act.

OpenAI building its own social media network to rival Musk's X: Report

ChatGPT maker OpenAI is working to build its own X-like social media network, The Verge reported. Sam Altman-led OpenAI already has an internal prototype of the social network focused on ChatGPT's image generation that has a social feed, the report said. The potential move could escalate tensions between Altman and X owner Elon Musk, who left OpenAI in 2018.

Gold reclaims its all-time high, silver jumps ₹2,500

Gold prices rose by ₹50 to reclaim the all-time high level of ₹96,450 per 10 grams in Delhi on Tuesday, according to the All India Sarafa Association. On Monday, the yellow metal of 99.9% purity had fallen by ₹50 to settle at ₹96,400 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, silver prices climbed by ₹2,500 to ₹97,500 per kg.

ED files complaint against Sonia & Rahul in National Herald money laundering case

India's retail inflation falls to 3.34%, lowest y-o-y inflation after August 2019

India's year-on-year inflation rate based on the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March 2025 over March 2024 stood at 3.34%, the government said on Tuesday. There is a decline of 27 basis points in the headline inflation of March 2025 in comparison to February 2025. It is the lowest year-on-year inflation after August 2019, the government added.

US judge blocks deportation of Indian student weeks before graduation

A US federal judge has stopped President Donald Trump's administration from deporting a 21-year-old Indian student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison after his visa was terminated. Krish Lal Isserdasani, who is an engineering student, was set to complete his degree in early May. As per the order, Krish was "given no warning [and] no opportunity to explain or defend himself."

During a Senate Energy Committee hearing, US Senator Jim Justice brought his bulldog, named Babydog, to give a "testimony". "She humanises us...She'd say just this: If you're rich or poor,...a kid or an adult, or...a Republican or...Democrat, she still loves you," Jim said. Following this, the committee chairman announced Babydog's "testimony" would be entered into the Congressional record.
