Kerala becomes Keralam after President approves new Bill

President Droupadi Murmu has given her assent to Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, officially renaming the state of Kerala as Keralam. With President's assent, the Bill has become law. It was passed by Lok Sabha on Tuesday and cleared by Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. In 2024, the Kerala Assembly had passed resolution seeking legislation to change the state's name.
