Why do some people faint after seeing blood?
short by Ankush Verma / on Monday, 22 December, 2025
Fainting at the sight of blood is known as vasovagal syncope, which is caused by a sudden reflex in nervous system. When a person sees blood, their body overreacts by activating the vagus nerve. This overreaction causes blood pressure and heart rate to drop suddenly. As a result, blood vessels widen, and blood flow to brain decreases, resulting in fainting.
