A New York City housing board voted to freeze rents for about one million regulated apartments for up to two years. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who had promised a rent freeze during his campaign, called it a "historic victory" for tenants. Criticising the move, US President Donald Trump said it would spread across the country like "an uncontrollable form of cancer".
