Rice University researchers discovered a new quantum state of matter that combines quantum criticality (electrons fluctuating between different phases) and electronic topology (quantum organisation form based on electrons' wave behaviour). They found strong interactions between electrons can lead to topological behaviour. This could be harnessed to develop sensitive and durable devices in future.
