China smokes 50% of world's cigarettes, usage up by 40% in 10 yrs

China is the largest tobacco consumer, accounting for 47.2% of global consumption, as per The New York Times, citing the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. With over 2.4 trillion cigarettes sold annually, China's consumption soared 39%, while global usage declined by 26% from 2013-2023. In the last 13 years, percentage of smokers decreased, but cigarette sales rose steadily.
