The whereabouts of a Chinese citizen journalist who was jailed for her reporting on COVID-19 and was set to be released after four years on May 13 is not known. Zhang Zhan, a lawyer-turned-journalist, had allegedly spoken about the Chinese government's efforts to censor criticism of its response to the pandemic on social media platforms, including YouTube, WeChat and X.
