Why the new tax law doesn't apply to ITRs yet?

Taxpayers filing income tax returns this year will continue to follow the Income-tax Act, 1961, despite the Income-tax Act, 2025 taking effect from April 1, 2026. This is because the income being reported was earned before the new law came into force. Tax liability, deductions and exemptions will therefore be governed by the old Act.
