Our gut tells brain to stop eating when we're sick: Study

Scientists at California University have found that our gut has a built-in system that signals the brain to stop eating during illness. The process involves specialised Enterochromaffin cells in the gut detecting parasites and sending signals that triggers the brain to suppress appetite. Experiments on mice by scientists confirmed that the signalling pathway directly drives appetite changes.
