Ex-TISS student held for raising slogans for Umar, Sharjeel's release at campus event

A 30-year-old ex-TISS student, Abhirup Paul, was arrested for allegedly organising an unauthorised gathering on its Mumbai campus in October 2025 to mark first death anniversary of former DU professor GN Saibaba. Saibaba was acquitted in 2024 in UAPA case. Court said paying homage to him wasn't illegal, but accused also raised slogans seeking Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam's release.
