Severe malaria may affect children's cognitive abilities: Study

Children who survive severe malaria may face long-term cognitive impairment and lower academic performance, a study published in JAMA found. After tracking nearly 900 children in Uganda for up to 15 years, researchers found those with cerebral malaria or severe malarial anaemia scored lower in cognition and maths than uninfected peers. Notably, these are the most common forms of malaria.
