short by Shreyasi Banerjee / on Sunday, 30 June, 2024
Complete fasting for the first few days can lead body to break down glycogen, stored in liver and muscles. As glycogen is bound with water, water loss can lead to 2-4 kg weight loss. Short-term effects of complete fasting include drop in blood sugar levels, headaches, gastritis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and hypoglycemia. Long-term effects include nutrient deficiencies and organ damage.
