Massive new crater discovered on Moon

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has discovered a newly formed crater on the Moon measuring about 222 metres across and 43 metres deep. Named McGetchin, the crater formed after an asteroid or comet fragment struck the Moon between April 11 and May 22, 2024. According to scientists, an impact this large occurs roughly once every 132 years on the Moon.
