Gujarat govt saves 6,682 lions from railway accidents using AI

Gujarat government saved 6,682 Asiatic lions from railway-related accidents between 2014 and 2024 by combining technology with traditional safeguards. It deployed an Intrusion Detection System with AI-based monitoring, CCTV surveillance, LED lights and optic-fibre cables to detect lion movement near tracks. The project focuses on accident-prone areas where lion movement is regularly recorded.
