What are sundogs?

Sundogs are coloured spots of light that develop due to refraction of sunlight through ice crystals and appear approximately 22° to left, right, or on both sides of Sun, depending on the ice crystals' orientation. They are also known as mock suns or parhelia. Their colours usually range from red closest to Sun, to blue on outer edge of sundog.
