To speed up production, Railways to now make 238 Mumbai AC locals at its own units

The Railways will now manufacture 238 new AC local trains for Mumbai at three of its production units: ICF Chennai, RCF Kapurthala and MCF Raebareli. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the earlier procurement process faced challenges, with the timeline extending to 2030, which was unacceptable. Under the new arrangement, the first AC local train will hit the tracks by 2027.
