CRED founder Kunal Shah has been appointed global head of WhatsApp as Meta seeks to accelerate monetisation of the messaging platform. It highlights India's strategic importance to Meta, whose apps collectively serve around a billion users in the country. Shah is also expected to strengthen WhatsApp's payments business, which has yet to secure a major share of the UPI market.
