Masturbation among birds is natural: Study

A study has found that masturbation among birds was more common in wild than in captivity, with researchers concluding it is part of a bird's natural behaviour. Researchers historically tended to assume that birds either didn't masturbate or did so only under stress of captivity. The activity was sometimes accompanied by wing flapping and vocalisations not typically heard from birds.
