Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. “Hindus should be protected, and the government of India should protect the Hindus there,” he added. Earlier, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor called the incident unbearably tragic. Tharoor said while he appreciated Bangladesh's condemnation of lynching, he asked what it was doing to punish the accused.
