Court can distinguish if a social evil branded as religious practice: SC on Sabarimala case

Supreme Court Judge BV Nagarathna, while hearing arguments in the Sabarimala Temple case related to the 2018 verdict on women’s entry, said, "If there is a social evil branded as a religious practice, the court can certainly distinguish between the two.” She added that sometimes social practices are given a religious colour, but that doesn't place them beyond constitutional review.
