Study finds humans carry DNA from two mysterious extinct ancestors
short by Aradhana / on Saturday, 1 August, 2026
A University of California, Berkeley study found modern humans carry DNA from two mysterious extinct lineages besides Neanderthals and Denisovans. One “ghost ancestor” interbred with humans in Africa over 50,000 years ago with their DNA making up 1% of modern human genome. Study also identified DNA from an older population that likely interbred with Denisovans in Eurasia 2,00,000 years ago.
