Are wooden chopping boards safe to use?
short by Medhaa Gupta / on Sunday, 29 December, 2024
Wooden chopping boards can pose health risks because the wood's porous nature causes it to absorb moisture, like vegetable juices or raw chicken residue, which creates an environment that could lead to bacteria and fungal growth, as per Senior Clinical Dietitian Varsha Gorey. She added that the scratches on the board are also "difficult to clean thoroughly, allowing harmful pathogens".
