Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, set to be listed as a terrorist organisation by the European Union, is ideological force of Islamic Republic, tasked with protecting the revolution from internal and external threats. Known in Iran as the Pasdaran (The Guards), it functions like an elite force, and is better trained and paid than regular military, a Western diplomat said.
