India may soon start getting currency notes made of polymer as the RBI attempts to meet a surge in demand for rupee notes, Business Standard reported. The plastic notes alternative was discussed in RBI's last two board meetings. Plastic notes have a comparatively lower cost of production and a higher shelf life, and a pilot project may be announced soon.
