The Jestha Varna Mahavihar monastery, on the outskirts of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, reconstructed with India's assistance, received UNESCO's Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation on Thursday. The 17th-century Buddhist monastery was damaged in the 2015 earthquake. UNESCO's representative to Nepal, Jaco Du Toit, handed over a certificate and plaque to the monastery's committee.
