Skin can be donated within six hours of death and preserved for up to five years after retrieval, BJP MP Vinod Shridhar Tawde said in the Rajya Sabha. Skin donation doesn't require blood group or tissue matching and can help in treatment for patients suffering from severe burn injuries. During the process, only the outermost layer of skin is removed.
