Minor Muslim girl or boy free to marry anyone they like after attaining puberty: High Court

Punjab and Haryana High Court observed that under Muslim Personal Law, a girl/boy is presumed competent to enter into a marriage of their choice after attaining puberty. The court was hearing a petition by a Muslim couple seeking protection of life and liberty after getting married against the wishes of the girl's family. The 17-year-old girl married a 26-year-old man.
