Himachal Pradesh deploys GLOF early warning system at glacier

Himachal Pradesh has successfully implemented a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) Early Warning System at Geepang Gath Glacier in Lahaul-Spiti, at 4,100 metres altitude. The system aims to shift disaster response from reactive to proactive, enabling real-time monitoring of glacial hazards and timely warnings for vulnerable Himalayan communities amid accelerating climate change.
