WHO's ex-Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan said, "The numbers (HMPV cases) we are counting now, it's meaningless...because it depends on the testing being done." She added, "If we suddenly start testing millions of people who have respiratory symptoms, we're going to find HMPV in the thousands." She also said, "HMPV infection has been in circulation in India for several years."
