Can a Public Provident Fund account be closed before maturity?

A Public Provident Fund (PPF) account can be closed before its 15-year maturity only under specific conditions, including medical emergencies, higher education or a change in residency status. Premature closure is allowed after completing five financial years from the account's opening. Early closure may also lead to a penalty or reduced interest earnings.
