India, led by MS Dhoni, secured a five-run victory over Pakistan in final to seal the inaugural T20 World Cup (then called World T20) on 24 September 2007. Gautam Gambhir smashed 75(54) to help India post 157-5. Pakistan were bowled out for 152 in the final over. Irfan Pathan, who recorded figures of 3-16, was named Player of the Match.
