SBI loses borrower's property papers; HC orders ₹5,000/day penalty

The Bombay High Court directed SBI to pay ₹5,000 per day from December 1, 2023, to a borrower whose property title deeds were lost despite the loan being fully repaid in 2003. The court said banks cannot avoid responsibility for missing documents because of delayed requests. Compensation will continue until SBI provides certified copies and reconstructed title records.
