How did a Dutch man become Hantavirus 'patient zero'?

Dutch ornithologist Leo Schilperoord has been identified as the suspected "patient zero" in a hantavirus outbreak aboard cruise ship MV Hondius. The 70-year-old reportedly boarded the ship after visiting Ushuaia on birdwatching trip with his wife. Officials believe they contracted Andes virus near a rat-infested landfill before boarding. Leo developed symptoms like fever and died aboard the ship.
