US removes Syria from 'state sponsor of terrorism' list

The US has removed Syria from its list of "State Sponsors of Terrorism", the US Treasury announced. It also revoked designation of al-Nusrah Front, aka Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group formerly led by now-President Ahmed al-Sharaa, as a global "terrorist" organisation. The move follows a series of steps by the Trump administration to provide sanctions relief for Syria.
