Pakistan train hijack ends, hostages freed as 33 militants killed

According to Pakistani media outlets, the train hijack by Baloch Liberation Army has ended and hostages have been freed. Top Pakistani army official Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that all 33 militants behind the hijacking have been killed. Over 400 people were on the train, with reports saying that around 350 were rescued.

Pakistan PM releases 1st statement on train hijack 30 hours after incident

Calling it a "heinous terrorist attack", Sharif said, "Entire nation is deeply shocked by this dastardly act and saddened by loss of...lives—such cowardly acts won't shake Pakistan's resolve for peace."

50 hostages executed by militants who hijacked Pakistan train

The Baloch Liberation Army has said that it has executed 50 hostages from the hijacked Pakistani train after "enemy forces attempted an armed advance using heavy artillery and sophisticated weaponry". "This brings the total number of eliminated enemy personnel to over 100, while approximately 150 more hostages remain under BLA custody," the militants said.

India's retail inflation hits 7-month low of 3.61%

The year-on-year inflation rate based on All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for February 2025 over February 2024 is 3.61% (Provisional), the government said on Wednesday. It is the lowest year-on-year inflation after July 2024, the government added. Year-on-year inflation rate based on All India Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) for February 2025 stood at 3.75%.

Four of the top five spots are occupied by left-arm spinners: New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner (second), India's Kuldeep Yadav (third), South Africa's Keshav Maharaj (fourth) and Namibia's Bernard Scholtz (fifth). 1st video of Pakistan train hijacking released

The video shows a blast targeting the train travelling from Quetta to Peshawar, and BLA militants taking hostages. Pakistani forces have rescued 155 passengers, saying a security operation was under way to free dozens still held hostage.

After Airtel, Reliance Jio signs deal with SpaceX to bring Starlink internet to India

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has signed a deal with Elon Musk's SpaceX to bring Starlink's internet services to India. This comes a day after Reliance Jio's rival Bharti Airtel signed a similar deal. Notably, both deals are subject to Starlink receiving government approval. The agreements follow PM Narendra Modi’s meeting with Elon Musk in the US a few weeks ago.

Ukraine agrees to accept 30-day war ceasefire; US lifts military aid restrictions on Ukraine

Ukraine has agreed to US' proposal for a 30-day ceasefire and immediate negotiations with Russia in talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday after three years of war. "We'll communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace," US said. It added that US will immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.

16 militants killed, 104 hostages rescued in Pakistan train hijack

After a passenger train was hijacked in Pakistan by Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) on Tuesday, the country's spokesperson said its security forces have killed 16 hijackers and rescued 104 passengers. BLA had reportedly said it took 214 hostages and killed 30 Pakistani military personnel. BLA sought release of Baloch political prisoners, forcibly disappeared persons and national resistance activists.
