Supreme Court dismisses plea alleging misuse of SC/ST Act

The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition challenging 2015 and 2018 amendments to the SC/AT Act, restoring the ban on anticipatory bail and removing the requirement of preliminary inquiry before registering an FIR. The court noted that sufficient safeguards already exist under the Act against its misuse. "Individual instances of misuse not grounds to reconsider a law," the court added.
