How does editing affect Claude’s AI watermark?

Anthropic says Claude's planned text watermark may survive light editing, but a complete rewrite replacing every word can remove it. The company said that heavily rewritten text may no longer reasonably be considered AI-generated. For proofreading or minor edits, watermark detection will depend on the text's length and extent of Claude's changes, as most words remain human-written.
