How long does it take for daily items to decompose?
short by Udit Gupta / on Thursday, 30 April, 2026
Everyday waste takes vastly different times to decompose. Aluminium cans can last over 100 years, while car tyres may take 2,000 years. Glass bottles can persist for up to 10,00,000 years. Plastic bottles and diapers take around 500 years, whereas organic waste like vegetable scraps decomposes within days to weeks. Paper towels can take two to four weeks to decompose.
