1st human case of Shamonda virus detected in France

France has reported the world's first known human case of Shamonda virus in a severely immunocompromised patient who died in early October. The virus primarily affects livestock and spreads through bites from infected midges. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said it is monitoring the situation and officials are investigating how the virus spread to a human.
