What is the difference between buyout and layoff?
A buyout and a layoff both involve leaving a job, but the difference is choice. In a buyout, a company offers employees money and benefits to leave voluntarily, allowing workers to accept or reject the offer. In layoffs, the company eliminates jobs, leaving affected employees with little or no say in decision. Microsoft has offered voluntary buyouts to 60,000 employees.
