The human metapneumovirus or HMPV was first discovered in 2001 and it can cause upper and lower respiratory diseases, especially among young children, older adults and those having compromised immune systems. To date, no vaccine for it is available. CDC said HMPV is most active during late winter and spring in temperate climates. It can circulate with RSV and influenza.
